Lilly's office at 7:30 in the evening of Oct. 12, 1895, for the purpose of organizing a volunteer fire company, the duty of the members of which, according to a resolution adopted at the first meeting, was the "fighting of fires, if any should occur at any time." One hose cart, with 150 feet of hose, and a nozzle and a trumpet for the chief, was the complete list of the property first pur-chased by this company, but how the firemen at that time used the hose is a complete mystery, for there were no water works in Casper then and when a fire occurred the flames were fought by a "bucket brigade."
